Essential Oils are liquids created naturally inside a plant. The “oils” can come from the bark, leaves, buds or peels of a plant. They are extracted usually through steam distillation. Essential Oils are highly potent and incredibly powerful because they contain the natural healing power of the plant they are extracted from. Scientific analysis has proven the antibacterial, anti-microbial and antiseptic powers of essential oils. Each plant also has various physical and emotional components to them.
We do not recommend ingestion of any oils without direction from a medical professional or herbalist. There is a lot of information available online about essential oils and not all of it is credible. We encourage you to do your research if you choose to buy essential oils on your own. Many oils claim to be pure but are diluted with other ingredients. We also stress that essential oils should be used cautiously and not without instruction because they are very powerful. Most oils cannot be used directly on skin without dilution in some kind of oil or lotion. Inhalation of large amounts of oils can make some people lightheaded or nauseous. That said, with proper use they can be wonderful!
Below is a guide to the essential oils that we currently have available at Harmony for use in a massage. It is intended only to provide a deeper understanding of how these oils can enhance your massage. Because each plant has so many properties, we have just listed the key properties and uses.
