Written by Emily Rose

Where is your headspace right now? Are you feeling cool, calm and collected? Overstressed? Bored? Totally exhausted from managing a family and a job out of your home?

We’re all experiencing this crisis in different ways. Many are struggling, some are thriving. I have had conversations with people in all different situations and each person’s experience is valid.  I know that many of you may be struggling, wanting this to be over as soon as possible or trying to figure out how to manage this for much longer. That’s totally okay. This is a brand-new world right now and it will likely have lasting ripple effects for a long time.

This could be a make it or break it moment for a lot of people. Some marriages are crumbling, domestic violence has spiked, many people have become food insecure, families with young children are struggling to keep up with school and work schedules on multiples devices for multiple family members. It can be a demoralizing time for many, but we have to believe that we will get through it. If you are feeling overwhelmed, then please reach out to local counselors and mental health hotlines.

Why is Peaceful Oil the perfect blend for a crisis?

Written by Emily Rose

Lavender is the #1 most requested oil in our practice. It's a scent that many people are extremely familiar with and seem to enjoy.  We really want to encourage people to get out of their comfort zone and try something different, because there are so many amazing oils out there (Rosemary and Ginger are two of my favorites). BUT, having said that, we don’t want you to miss out on all the amazing benefits of Lavender Oil either.

Did you know that lavender can be made even better with the addition of a citrus oil? Lavender blends nicely with almost all other oils, but the combination we created for Peaceful is a simple one. Orange + Lavender. It’s simple but magical because together they really do bring a sense of peace.

Tips to Stay Sane During Quarantine

Written by Emily Rose

You know how we all say our lives are too busy and we don’t have time to take care of ourselves? Well, chances are, unless you are in one of the essential businesses, your life just got a whole lot less busy. If you are a nurse, Doctor or health worker thank you for everything you are doing and please stay safe out there. For the rest of us, now’s the time to talk self-care. But many of us go-getter types end up crashing and burning when faced with a vast block of unregulated time. So how do we cope? What do we do with all that time?

Creating a routine can help make sense of everything and give you back a sense of control. If you have kids, chances are you’re already trying to create some kind of routine to keep your kids active and engaged. If you’re able to work from home, that’s great, because you naturally have a routine; however if you are stuck home with no work, then creating a routine is the first major step. Even if you are working from home, you probably have added time now that you don’t have to commute or maybe even put on real clothes.

November of Gratitude- Our First Food Drive!

Written by Emily Rose

We are on the brink of November which means exciting things are coming to Harmony this month! Last year we started our first annual month of Gratitude since November is the month of Thanks-giving. We continue this year with even more exciting ways to give back and share the joy of our work and appreciation for our customers and community.

We will be holding our first Food Drive to benefit the local food bank, Island Harvest! All November we will be offering $5 off any massage service for anyone who brings in at least 2 non-perishable food or supply items. We appreciate all donations but are requesting help collecting healthier food options as well as toiletries and household supplies so our neighbors have the opportunity to eat the way we would choose to eat ourselves. Island Harvest serves over 400 organizations across Long Island who directly help those in need. It is also a cause dear to Emily's heart because Island Harvest was the first real job she had in addition to being her reason for moving to Long Island.

When to Ice and When to Apply Heat for Pain

Written by Emily Rose

One of the most common recommendations I make to clients is either to apply heat or ice to an area of their body. I find there’s a lot of confusion among clients as to which is appropriate for their needs. To understand which therapy is used for what we need a basic understanding of the effects of heat and cold.
